How this works

What it means

Your next annual increment date, how many days remain until it, and your length of service measured from the date you entered.

How it’s calculated

Under the current increment rule, there are two increment dates each year: 1 January and 1 July. Your anchor date (date of appointment, or date of last increment if provided) is assigned to whichever of the two follows it, and the increment then recurs annually on that same fixed date.

Common Defence use cases

Checking when your next annual increment falls, confirming a date shown on your pay slip, and estimating your length of service from a known appointment or increment date.

Increment Cohort = 1 July, if anchor date falls between 2 January and 1 July
                    1 January, if anchor date falls between 2 July and 1 January
Next Increment Date = the next occurrence of the Increment Cohort date after today

Assumptions

This is a simplified, illustrative estimate only — always verify with your pay and accounts office.
Models the current 7th CPC increment rule (CCS (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016, Rule 10): two increment dates each year, 1 January and 1 July, assigned by which half of the year the anchor date falls in, recurring annually thereafter.
If Date of Last Increment is provided, it's used as the anchor and takes precedence over Date of Appointment, since it's the more recent, authoritative reference point.
Does not verify that a provided Date of Last Increment actually falls on 1 January or 1 July — an incorrect date entered here will produce an incorrect next increment date.
Assumes continuous, fully reckonable service since the anchor date — does not model increment withholding (e.g. for adverse ACR/APAR, pending disciplinary action) or increment postponement rules.
"Years of Service" is measured from whichever anchor date you provided, not necessarily your full career service — if you only enter Date of Last Increment, this figure reflects time since that increment, not your total service.
