How this works

What it means

Whether you've completed the minimum residency (time-in-grade) period since your last promotion, and when that period is met if not.

How it’s calculated

Your eligibility date is your date of last promotion plus the minimum residency period you enter, in years. Today's date is compared against that eligibility date to determine whether the residency requirement has been completed.

Checking whether you've met the minimum time-in-grade for your next promotion, and planning ahead of an upcoming residency completion date.

Eligibility Date = Date of Last Promotion + Minimum Residency Requirement (years)

Assumptions

  • This is a simplified, illustrative estimate only — always verify with your unit's HR/records office or promotion board authority.
  • Checks only whether the minimum residency period has elapsed — it does not model vacancy availability, seniority, merit/selection board outcomes, ACR/APAR grading thresholds, or any organisation-specific promotion board process. Meeting the residency period is necessary but not sufficient for an actual promotion.
  • "Minimum Residency Requirement" must be entered by you — this calculator does not look up or verify the correct residency period for your rank, grade or service, since these vary significantly by cadre and service.
  • Assumes continuous, fully reckonable service since the last promotion — does not verify or exclude breaks that may not count.
