What it means
A projection of how much earned leave you're likely to have at a planned future retirement date, and how much of it is estimated to be encashable — not this calculator's own rupee-value calculation, but a lead-in figure for the separate Leave Encashment Calculator.
How it’s calculated
Future accrual is prorated from your entered annual accrual rate over the days remaining until your planned retirement date, added to your current balance, then reduced by your planned leave utilisation. The encashable figure is capped at 300 days, reusing the same commonly-cited ceiling the Leave Encashment Calculator itself uses.
Common Defence use cases
Planning how much leave to use versus preserve ahead of retirement, and estimating the leave-days figure to carry into the Leave Encashment Calculator for a rupee estimate.
Formula
Projected Accrual = (Days to Retirement ÷ 365.25) × Estimated Future Leave Accrual (days/year)
Estimated Leave at Retirement = Current Leave Balance + Projected Accrual − Planned Leave Utilisation
Estimated Encashable Leave = clamp(Estimated Leave at Retirement, 0, 300 days)Assumptions
- This is a simplified, illustrative planning estimate only — always verify against your official leave account.
- This is NOT a replacement for the Leave Encashment Calculator — it does not calculate a rupee value. It only projects a leave-days figure; feed that figure into the Leave Encashment Calculator (along with your Basic Pay and DA) for the rupee estimate. The two calculators deliberately do not duplicate each other's math — this one reuses the Leave Encashment Calculator's own exported 300-day ceiling rather than re-declaring it.
- "Estimated Future Leave Accrual" is a rate you provide (days/year), prorated smoothly over the remaining time to retirement — it does not model actual half-yearly crediting instalments or accrual-rate changes over that period.
- Does not model organisation-specific encashment ceilings, leave type distinctions, or approval processes for planned future leave utilisation.
Example calculations
Current balance 200 days, retirement 4 years away, accrual 30 days/year, planned utilisation 60 days
Estimated Leave at Retirement 259.9 days — Estimated Encashable Leave 259.9 days
Current balance 280 days, retirement 4 years away, accrual 30 days/year, planned utilisation 0 days
Estimated Leave at Retirement 399.9 days — Estimated Encashable Leave capped at 300.0 days
