How this works

What it means

Your Basic Pay under the 7th CPC Pay Matrix, looked up by Pay Level and Cell Number — the same matrix structure used across central government pay since 1 January 2016.

How it’s calculated

Each Pay Level starts at a fixed Cell 1 (minimum) Basic Pay. Every later cell is generated by increasing the previous cell by 3% and rounding to the nearest ₹100 — the documented rule the government itself uses to construct the published matrix.

Common Defence use cases

Looking up your current or projected Basic Pay at a given level and cell, checking what Basic Pay a promotion to a higher level would mean, and feeding an accurate Basic Pay figure into the Retirement Pension, Leave Encashment or Income Tax calculators.

Formula

Basic Pay (Cell 1) = the Pay Level's published starting figure Basic Pay (Cell N) = round(Basic Pay (Cell N−1) × 1.03, nearest ₹100), for N > 1

Assumptions

  • This is a simplified, illustrative estimate only — always verify your exact Basic Pay against the official 7th CPC Pay Matrix or your pay slip/PPO.
  • Version 1 supports Pay Levels 1 to 12 only. Levels 13 and above (senior ranks) are not yet available — support will be added once independently verified against the latest official matrix.
  • Only each level's Cell 1 value is an independently stored, authoritative figure. Every other cell is generated using the documented 3%-rounded-to-₹100 construction rule rather than independently verified cell-by-cell against the official published table — for the exact figure at higher cells, cross-check the official matrix.
  • Cell Number options go up to 40 as a generous, uniform planning range. The official maximum cell number varies by level and is not modeled per level here.
  • "Category" (Civilian / Defence Forces) does not currently change the underlying pay figures — both use the same published Pay Matrix table. Defence-specific pay elements such as Military Service Pay are not added to the Basic Pay shown.
  • Basic Pay only — this calculator does not add Dearness Allowance or any other allowance.
